6 years ago, a father was 7 times as old as his son. After 6 yrs, he will be 3 times as old as his son. Find the present age of son .
Let father's age = f
and son's age = s

as per 1st condition;
(f - 6) = 7(s - 6)..................(1)

as per 2nd condition;
(f + 6) = 3(s + 6)

solve parenthesis and we get;
f + 6 = 3s + 18

subtract 6 both sides and we get;
f = 3s + 12 ..........................(2)

put the value of ' f ' from (2) into (1) and we get;
(3s +12 - 6) = 7(s - 6)

solve parenthesis and we get;
3s + 6 = 7s - 42
3s - 7s = -42 - 6
-4s = -48

divide both side by (-4) and we get;
s = 12

put the value of "s" into (2) and we get;
f = 3 * 12 + 12
f = 36 + 12
f = 48

father's age = 48 years
and son's age = 12 years
