Home >> Decimal >> Unlike Decimals >> Subtraction of Unlike Decimals >> Examples Subtraction of Unlike Decimals : Solved Examples
Solve (41.8 - 28.34) |
Subtraction proceeds in the following steps:
Step 1: Convert Unlike Decimal to like decimal
Decimal 41.8 and 28.34 are Unlike Decimals, because:
41.8 have only one decimal place i.e. digit 8
28.34 have two decimal places i.e. digit 3 and 4
Now, 41.8 can be converted into a decimal having two decimal places i.e. by adding 0(Zero) at its hundredths place.
And after conversion we get;
41.80 having two decimal places i.e. digit 8 and 0
Now, 41.80 and 28.34 are like Decimals because both have similar decimal places
Step 2: Write minuend and subtrahend in such a way that decimal point and digit of same place values should be at same vertical order or same place value
41.80
- 28.34
Step 3: Do the subtraction as in case of whole numbers and we get:
Subtraction of Digits at hundredths place and we get:
0 - 4 = ???
Here we can see that 0 is less than 4, so we will carry 1 from tenths digit and we get digit 10 at hundredths place (as shown above), so the subtraction will be:
10 - 4 = 6
6 is written in the result at same place value.
Subtraction of Digits at tenths place.
Now digit at tenths place is 7 (as shown above) and its subtraction will be:
7 - 3 = 4
4 is written in the result at same place value.
Subtraction of Digits at ones place
1 - 8 = ???
Here we can see that 1 is less than 8, so we will carry 1 from tens digit and we get digit 11 at ones place (as shown above), so the subtraction will be:
11 - 8 = 3
3 is written in the result at same place value.
Subtraction of Digits at tens place.
Now digit at tens place is 3 (as shown above) and its subtraction will be:
3 - 2 = 1
1 is written in the result at same place value.
Step 4: Decimal Point of given decimals and answer should be at same vertical order or at same place.
