Volume of Right Circular Cylinder

Cylinder Base Cylinder Axis Lateral Surface Area of Cylinder Total Surface Area of Cylinder Volume of Cylinder

Before you study how to calculate volume of cylinder, you are advised to read:

What is Cylinder ?
How to find Area of Circle ?

Volume of cylinder = Π r2h

How formula for volume of cylinder is obtained

Observe the following diagram of cylinder:

Volume of cylinder is equals to Area of base multiplied by height (as shown above):
Volume of cylinder = Area of base X Height ... (Statement 1)

Now you can see that base is in circular share, so apply formula for area of circle and we get:
Area of Base = Π r2 ... (Statement 2)

As mentioned above in statement 1:
Volume of cylinder = Area of base X Height

Put values from statement 2 and we get:
= Π r2 X Height

Therefore, Volume of cylinder = Π r2 X Height = Π r2h

Note: Volume of cylinder is always in cubic units i.e. mm3, cm3, m3 etc
