Find volume of cube

Total Surface area of cube Lateral surface area of cube Volume of cube

Before you study how to calculate volume of cube, you are advised to read:

What is Square ?
How to find area of square ?

First let's understand What does volume means
The measure of the amount of space occupied by an object is known as "Volume of the Solid"

Volume of Cube = side X side X side = (side)3

How formula for volume of cube is obtained

Let's understand how formula for volume of cube is obtained:
Observe the following diagram of cube:

Volume of cube is equals to Area of base multiplied by height (as shown below):
Volume of cube = Area of base X Height ..... (Statement 1)

Now you can see that base is in square shape, so apply formula for area of square and we get:
Area of Base = side X side ..... (Statement 2)

As mentioned above in statement 1:
Volume of cube = Area of base X Height

Put values from statement 2 and we get:
= side X side X Height

Also, as we know that in cubes all sides are equal, so height = side and we get:
= side X side X side
= (side)3

Therefore, Volume of cube = (side)3

(Note: Volume of cube is always in cubic units i.e. mm3, cm3, m3 etc ... )

Let try some following example to find the volume of given cubes:

Example 1 : The sides of the below cube shaped box is 3cm. Find the volume of the cube shaped box ?

Sides of cube = 3cm (given)
Volume of cube = (side)3 = (3)3 = 27 cm3

Example 2 : The sides of the below cube shaped box is 10cm. Find the volume of the cube shaped box ?

Sides of cube = 10 cm (given)
Volume of cube = (side)3 = (10)3= 100 cm3

Example 3 : The sides of the below cube shaped box is 5cm. Find the volume of the cube shaped box ?

Sides of cube = 5 cm (given)
Volume of cube = (side)3 = (5)3 = 125 cm3
