The terms of an algebraic experssion are those which are seperated by addition operator i.e (+) and;or subtraction operator i.e (-). Also, addition and;or subtraction operator is a part of a term. Generally, we write subtraction operator (-) and addition operator is understood, so it is not written.
Following examples will help in further understanding:-
Example 1 = Write the terms of x + y
Answer = Terms of the given expression are x and y
Note:- Here term x and y contains addition operator(+), and as explained above the addition operator(+) is understood and is generally not written.
Example 2 = Write the terms of x - y
Answer = Terms of the given expression are x and (-y)
Example 3 = Write the terms of 3a + 6xz - 5 - 4z - 5pq + 10
Answer = Terms of the given expression are 3a, 6xz, (-5), (-4z), (-5pq), 10
Note:- Here, terms 6xz and 10 contains addition operator(+), and as explained above the addition operator is understood and is generally not written.
