Ratio to Percentage : Solved Examples

Ratio as Fraction Equivalent Ratios Proportion Terms (Proportion) Ratio to Percentage

In a class, boys and girls are in the ration of 3 : 2. Find the percentage of boys and girls in the class.
As per the given question:

Boys : Girls = 3 : 2
So, boys and girls are the term of ratio & their respective term value is:
Boys = 3
Girls = 2

Steps of Conversion are as follows:
  • Step 1 : Calculate Sum of terms of given ratio and we get:
    3 + 2 = 5
    Therefore sum of terms of given ratio = 5

  • Step 2 : Represent Ratio of Boys and Girls in Fractional form
    Fractional Form for Boys = Boys Term Value / Sum of terms
    Put value of boys and sum of terms from above and we get:
    = 3/5
    Therefore, Fractional Form for Boys = 3/5

    Fractional Form for Girl = Girls Term value / Sum of terms
    Put value of girls and sum of terms from above and we get:
    = 2/5
    Therefore, Fractional Form for Girls = 2/5

  • Step 3 : Convert Fractional Form into percentage
    Percentage of boys = Fractional Form for boys x 100 %
    Put value of Fractional Form of First Term from above and we get:
    = (3/5) X 100
    Solve the above expression and we get:
    = 60
    Therefore, Percentage for Boys = 60%

    Percentage for Girls = Fractional Form for Girls x 100 %
    Put value of Fractional Form of Second Term from above and we get:
    = (2/5) X 100
    Solve the above expression and we get:
    = 40
    Therefore, Percentage for Girls = 40%

    Hence, in the given class, boys are 60% and girls are 40%
