Define Percentage : Solved Examples

Percentage to Fraction Percentage to Decimal Percentage Increase Percentage Decrease

In a class there are 40 students. On Monday 4 students were absent. Find what percent of students were absent on Monday?
As per given in the question:

Total students = 40 ... (Statement 1)
Number of students absent = 4 ... (statement 2)

Percentage of students absent = (Number of students absent / total students ) X 100

Put the values from Statement 1 and 2 & we get:

4
40
X 100

Solve by division and cross multiplication and we get

= 10%

Therefore, 10% of students were absent on Monday.
