Percentage Increase : Solved Examples

Percentage to Fraction Percentage to Decimal Percentage Increase Percentage Decrease

Population of city grew by 1000 in 2015 as compared to last year population of 5000. Find the percentage increase in population ?
Given things are
Population in 2015 = 5000
Increase in population = 1000

So 2014 population is : 5000 - 1000 = 4000

Now we will apply the formula of percentage increase and we get :

Percentage Increase = (Increase in Value / Base Value ) X 100
Percentage Increase = (Increase in Population / 2014 population ) X 100
Percentage Increase = (1000 / 5000 ) X 100
Percentage Increase = 0.2 X 100
Percentage Increase = 20%
