Multiplication of Decimals Division of Decimals

Arrange the following series in descending order:

3.35, 10.12, 10.55, 100.7, 10.8
This proceeds in the following steps:

Step 1: We start with comparing the Whole Number Part of Decimals and decimal with the largest whole number part is to be written at first place in the order, we get:
100 is the largest whole number part of decimal 100.7 from the given series, so it is written at the first place of descending order.

Descending Order = 100.7

Step 2: Then we find a decimal whose whole number part is smaller than the whole number part of decimal selected earlier in step 1, but larger than whole number part of remaining decimals.

But, here in the given series you can see that there are three decimals having 10 as their whole number part, in such cases we will compare digits at tenths place and decimal with the largest digit at tenths place will be at 2nd place in the order, 2nd largest at 3rd place and smallest among these three decimals will be at 4th place.

Decimal 10.12 has 1 at its tenths place
Decimal 10.55 has 5 at its tenths place
Decimal 10.8 has 8 at its tenths place

Since 8 is largest, 5 is 2nd largest and 1 is smallest, so we get series:

Descending Order = 100.7, 10.8, 10.55, 10.12

Step 3: Lastly, we are left with only one decimal, whose whole number part is the smallest among whole number parts of all the given decimals and it would be written in the last place of the order:

Since decimal 3.35, whose whole number part is 3 and the smallest among whole numbers part of all the given decimals, so 3.35 would be written at the last place of the descending order and we get complete series:

Descending Order = 100.7, 10.8, 10.55, 10.12, 3.35
