Closure Property (Division of Whole Numbers) : Solved Examples

Prove that whole numbers not closed under division.
Whole numbers are closed under division; this mean that division of whole number does not always results into a whole number.

Let's understand this with the help of following equations:

24 ÷ 22 = 12/11

10 ÷ 8 = 5/4

16 ÷ 4 = 4

125 ÷ 25 = 5

In the above equation, you can notice that:

In first two equations the division of whole number 24 by 8 & 10 by 8 results into fractions 12/11 & 5/4 respectively.
And in last two equations the division of whole number 16 by 4 & 125 by 25 results into whole numbers 4 & 5 respectively.

Hence this proves that Whole numbers are closed under division; this mean that division of whole number does not always results into a whole number. And this is known as Closure Property of Division of Whole Numbers.
