| Equivalent Fractions Proper Fraction | Improper Fraction | Like Fractions | Unlike Fractions | Decimal Fraction | Mixed Fraction | Equivalent Fractions | Explanation :-
There are two ways of finding an Equivalent Fraction of a given fraction :-
1). By Multiplying :-
Equivalent Fraction is obtained by multiplying both numerator and denominator of the given fraction by the same number.
e.g. 2/5 = 2×2/5×2 = 4/10 = 2×3/5×3 = 6/15 = 2×4/5×4 = 8/20
So, the Equivalent Fraction of 2/5 = 4/10, 6/15, 8/40.
2). By Dividing :-
Equivalent Fraction is obtained by dividing both numerator and denominator of the given fraction by the same number.
e.g. 24/36 = 24÷2/26÷2 = 12/18 = 12÷3/18÷3 = 4/6 = 4÷2/6÷2 = 2/3
So, the Equivalent Fraction of 24/36 = 12/18, 4/6, 2/3
Two fractions are said to be equivalent when the cross-multiplication, i.e numerator of one fraction is multiplied with denominator of other fraction, gives equal result.
e.g. 2/5 = 4/10
cross multiply both the fractions, and we get :
2 × 10 = 4 × 5
20 = 20
Since, L.H.S = R.H.S
So, we can say that both the fractions are equivalent.
