Comparison of Unlike Fraction with Same Numerator and find which one is greater

Comparison of Like Fraction Comparison of Unlike Fraction (Same Numerator) Comparison of Unlike Fraction (Different Numerators)

When you need to compare fraction with same numerator, the fraction with smallest denominator is greatest.

For example 1
3
> 1
5

Following are few examples explaining How to compare fractions with same numerator :-

Example 1 : Compare the following unlike fractions and check which one is greater

15
6
and 15
8

Answer = The given fraction have same numerator i.e 15, so we compare them on the basis of their denominator.

The fraction which have smallest denominator is greatest.

In the given example denominator 6 is smaller than denominator 8.

Hence 15
6
> 15
8

Example 2 : Compare between following unlike fractions and check which one is greater

9
8
and 9
2

Answer = The given fraction have same numerator i.e 9, so we compare them on the basis of their denominator.

The fraction which have smallest denominator is greatest.

In the given example denominator 2 is smaller than denominator 8.

Hence 9
2
> 9
8

Example 3 : Compare the following unlike fractions and check which one is greater

77
32
and 77
23

Answer = The given fraction have same numerator i.e 77, so we compare them on the basis of their denominator.

The fraction which have smallest denominator is greatest.

In the given example denominator 23 is smaller than denominator 32.

Hence 77
23
> 77
32

Example 4 the following unlike fractions and check which one is greater

243
100
and 243
150

Answer = The given fraction have same numerator i.e 243, so we compare them on the basis of their denominator.

The fraction which have smallest denominator is greatest.

In the given example denominator 100 is smaller than denominator 150.

Hence 243
100
> 243
150
